Where We Stayed in Italy

OKAY GUYS I heard you, calm your tits.

Everyone (and by everyone, I mean 4 people) have asked me for the Airbnb links to the places we stayed in Italy. I geeeeet it, they looked so freaking dreamy right? I’m pasting the links here so you can get them all in one place, now stop bugging me about it. KIDDING! I really am kidding though, I love talking about our experiences and sharing travel info so if you wanna know more or have any questions, holla at me.

This was my first time (and Henrik’s and my dad’s) to Italy. Kev’s been there once before on a family trip back in grade 6, but his parents said he and his two brothers were hopped up on gravol for nearly the entire trip because they were bouncing off the walls and they needed to “calm down”. Major respect to his folks. But since Kevin was knocked out for most of his trip, our travels through Italy were kinda like his first time too?

We spent 2 weeks across 4 cities for reference: Rome, Amalfi, Tuscany, and Florence. Also FYI just for transparency, I have zero ties to Airbnb and the hosts of these properties, I’m just straight up sharing my personal experience and love for these cool ass accommodations.

Rome

Rome Airbnb

Here’s where we stayed and why we would 1000% recommend this Airbnb to anyone visiting Rome for the first time - because:

1. It’s super central, like it’s literally RIGHT at the Trevi Fountain so you can live out your Lizzie McGuire dreams.

2. It’s very clean (and that says a lot because I’m a low key germaphobe).

3. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful. When we needed to find whole milk for our toddler, which is surprisingly uncommon there, we were given directions to a few supermarket options. Not to mention the delicious *chef’s kiss* food recommendations.

Reasons you might not love this Airbnb: you hate people, you hate noise, or you hate love. The property being so central to the hustle and bustle is a huge benefit in my opinion, but that can also have some downsides. If you’re staying this close to the Trevi Fountain, you should obviously expect to fight crowds, day and night. The crowds don’t ever leave, so it’s kinda loud like ALWAYS, but we love people watching so that was also a bonus in our books. Also, I’m not exaggerating when I say we must have heard at least a dozen proposals PER DAY during our stay here. K I get that it’s romantic as F, but come on guys, let’s get our thinking caps on and brainstorm more unique proposals (no shade to anyone who got engaged at the Trevi, congrats to you). All this to say, this was legit one of my most fav Airbnb stays (ever) because… just look at it.

Amalfi

Amalfi Airbnb

Here’s where we stayed in Amalfi and why we would recommend it to all our pals: It’s  BEA-U-TIFUL - check out this view. It’s also incredibly spacious and private.

Why we wouldn’t recommend it to our pals: there’s a bajillion steps to get down to the property, it’s secluded in a town called Conca dei Merini on the Amalfi Coast, there’s literally nothing to do in this town and there’s one grocery store that’s open during very slim hours. So be prepared to buy groceries and cook for yourselves for most of your meals or make the drive to the next town over, like Amalfi or Positano.

Tuscany - JK Orvieto

Orvieto Airbnb

Ok so I lied, we didn’t actually stay in the Tuscan region. We stayed in Orvieto, which is in the province of Umbria (next door neighbours to Tuscany). But kinda the same thing - they’re both wine and food regions, super lowkey, and have country fields for daaays. Why we would recommend this Airbnb: It’s absolutely breathtaking, the property is huge and stunning and just such a Tuscan dream, the hosts are incredibly friendly (they’ll even give you a tour of their winery), and oh ya - it’s ON A WINERY.

Why we wouldn’t recommend it: it doesn’t have air conditioning and we visited during a major heat wave. If you’re keeping those big doors open to let the breeze run through the home, be prepared for visits from the friendly cat and dog that live on the property!

Florence

By far our most fav city during this trip, because we’re big city people and love that hustle and bustle vibe. We stayed in 2 diff Airbnbs during our visit in Florence: one near the Ponte Vecchio and one near the Duomo.

First Florence Airbnb

We felt kinda sketch booking an Airbnb with only 2 reviews at the time, but are SO glad we made the leap because this was a total gem. Location - check. Cleanliness - check. Space - check. My dad was travelling with us so this property was a perfect fit since there are 2 separate bedrooms with ample space AND an ensuite in each room. The balcony was great for people watching, especially since it was so centrally located. PS. There’s also a famous gelato place that’s a fav of many locals literally steps away.

Second Florence Airbnb

We also stayed here and didn’t love it as much based on size and cleanliness, but it was still a great experience. Location was the best feature of this property, not to mention the secret loft hideout with a wicked view of the Duomo.

Honestly, we planned our entire trip around our Airbnb reservations and we have zero regrets. This was our first big trip after having Henrik and we knew how important it would be to find accommodations that would suit our needs, in terms of space and location. Nap times were often spent at the Airbnb, so we wanted to find places that had an optimal hang out space while H napped in the afternoons and these really did the trick for us.

Have you stayed at any Airbnbs that really WOW’d you? Please share! Don’t gatekeep that shit.
